PROJECT 5 PROCESS I wanted to combine project 4 and 5 into the same project. After completing project 4 (the handmade book), I wanted to push the boundaries of what a book really is. At it's core, a book is a 2 dimensional (the pages and words) and 3 dimensional (the book's form itself) way of storytelling. What if I stripped away the 3 dimensional aspect of the book and told a story through only an image. But don't all images tell stories? Yes and no. Some images are just pretty to look at, but I wanted to tell a narrative through 1 image alone. In Project 4 I wanted to also convey the meaning of the passage of time. In Project 5 my goal is to freeze a specific moment in my character's life and tell the story of what's going on in their life through a series miniature photographs showcased in the window of the motel. The motel windows signify how we're only getting a glimpse of the moment (not the full picture, both literally and metaphorically)

The Cyclical Nature of Things I took a very personal approach to this project and looked inward on my life to find inspiration. To me, cyclical is a repetitive motion or action that occurs in my every day life. For me that would be my job and how it always feels the same. As a wedding photographer, not much is different about weddings. The couple gets ready, walks down an aisle, kisses, they're married, and then they party. It's all the same, and the tradition has been the same for centuries. In my piece, I wanted to place artistic confinements on my work by using only my photography. I used photographs from various different weddings I've photographed to compile this image, along with images of objects from my every day life when I'm not at a wedding. The computer, notebook, and camera tell more of a visual story about my workaholic tendicies and gives more dialogue to the image. The couple in the middle of the image is a same-sex couple which breaks that tra

My inspiration for this piece is to visually show the passage of time through repetition and horizontal lines. The horizontal lines vaguely represent a timeline and how time is linear, and the repetition is to show the growth, aging, and decline of objects and life throughout time. The images down below were created to composite a book, which I did not think to photograph and add to the blog before I turned it in. The book was created to be turned round and round, to signify how time never stops and how you could be stuck thinking in circles. I used my own photographs from a business trip to Utah to create the book, and I love how there is a dream-like quality to them. The imagery creates an inviting space that allows my mind to wander freely, like wandering about what the future might hold or mistakes made in the past. The desert also has a funny way of interacting with time. In the very last image listed, I walked along that desert for what felt like hours but turned out to be
